A Life-Saving Donation: How Mr. Amar’s Selfless Act Enabled a Safe Delivery for Mrs. Smriti Rekha
On November 13, 2024, a heartwarming act of compassion took place at IGM Hospital in Agartala, Tripura. A pregnant woman, Mrs. Smriti Rekha Debbarma, was admitted for delivery but faced a critical hurdle. Due to low hemoglobin levels, her doctors required an immediate blood transfusion to safely proceed with her labor. With no compatible blood donors among her family members and no replacement options at the local blood bank, her family was left in a state of distress, uncertain of how to secure the life-saving blood she urgently needed.
The Search for a Donor
Determined to find a solution, the family turned to the website of Lam Phunuknai Trust (www.lamphunuknai.com), where they found the “Blood Donors” menu listing the Lam Phunuknai Blood Donor Community. The website provided details on registered donors, including their names, blood groups, and contact information. After searching through the directory, the family was relieved to find a matching donor: Mr. Amar Debbarma.
Answering the Call
Without delay, the family reached out to Mr. Amar by phone, sharing the urgency of the situation. Moved by their plea and after verifying the details, Mr. Amar graciously agreed to donate his blood. Early on the morning of November 13, he arrived at IGM Hospital, where he met with the family and swiftly completed the blood donation process for Mrs. Smriti Rekha Debbarma.
A Successful Delivery Thanks to a Timely Donation
With the transfusion complete, the medical team was able to proceed safely with Mrs. Debbarma’s labor. Thanks to Mr. Amar’s blood donation, she underwent a successful delivery and gave birth to a healthy baby without any further complications. Both mother and baby are now in good health, a testimony to the life-changing impact that timely blood donations can have in critical situations.
A Gesture of Gratitude
For Mr. Amar Debbarma, this selfless act marked his 7th blood donation and his 2nd as a registered member of the UTF Blood Donor Community. In recognition of his invaluable contribution, team UTF presented him with a custom-designed t-shirt at the UTF Office, symbolizing the trust’s heartfelt appreciation for his commitment to helping those in need.
