Elderly Widow Receives Vital Winter Aid from UTF. The Story of Mrs. Balang Monti Molsom
In the remote village of Molsom Twibaklai, Killa, Gomati District in Tripura, an 80-year-old widow named Mrs. Balang Monti Molsom has been quietly enduring hardship in her rustic bamboo and thatch hut. Without the support of her children, she has been left to fend for herself, struggling to meet her basic needs, especially as the cold winter months. Her story came to light when she reached out for help from our NGO.
Living alone in a simple, makeshift hut constructed from bamboo and thatch, her circumstances reflect the vulnerability faced by many elderly individuals without family support. As an 80-year-old widow, she has no reliable source of income and often faces shortages of food, clothing, and other basic essentials. With limited means, she especially suffers during the harsh winter season, as her hut offers little insulation against the cold, and she lacks sufficient warm clothing and blankets.
Her plight became especially dire as the cold intensified. Knowing she had no one to turn to for assistance, she approached Mr. Yudhishthir Jamatia, a member of UTF, with a humble request for some warm clothing and blankets to help her survive the winter season. She shared her worries about enduring the cold nights without adequate protection, hoping that her story would touch the hearts of those able to help.
Mr. Yudhishthir Jamatia took her request to heart and relayed her story to the UTF team. Recognizing the urgency of her need, the team swiftly gathered the necessary information to verify her situation. UTF’s investigation revealed that her circumstances were genuine and urgent, confirming the critical need for intervention.
After assessing her needs, UTF’s team quickly mobilized resources to provide her with essential winter supplies. They assembled a package that included a bedding set, blankets, and a shawl to help her stay warm and comfortable during the cold nights. UTF’s senior advisor, respected community figure Shakti Jamatia, personally coordinated the delivery alongside UTF members Pinku Basal Debbarma and Yudhishthir Jamatia.
On December 24, 2019, the UTF team visited her humble home to deliver the much-needed supplies. Their arrival brought a sense of relief and joy to the elderly widow, who had been facing the possibility of enduring another winter without the warmth and security she needed. The team handed over a bedding set, warm blankets, and a shawl, ensuring that she would have sufficient protection against the cold.
The compassionate gesture brought not only physical comfort but also emotional solace to her, who expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the UTF team. Her story serves as a reminder of the struggles that many elderly individuals in remote areas face, often going unnoticed and unaddressed.
