Residential House Construction for Kritimohan Tripura
The United Tiprasa Forum (UTF) embarked on a transformative project in late 2021 to construct a residential home for a deserving family in Srikanta Kami, Kowaifang, Santir Bazar, South Tripura. The project was initiated on October 12, 2021, with the construction commencing on October 23, 2021, and successfully completed by December 21, 2021.
The beneficiaries, Mr. Kritimohan Tripura and his wife, Hemalakhi Tripura, faced immense daily struggles due to their impoverished circumstances. Mr. Kritimohan, who is 80% visually impaired, is unable to work, leaving the burden of earning solely on his wife, Hemalakhi. Despite her dedication, she had to leave their newborn baby at home to work and provide for her family. The couple lived in a dilapidated shelter that was unfit for human habitation, with numerous holes in the roof, doors, and walls. They were unable to apply for government housing schemes due to insufficient documentation.
The United Tiprasa Forum was alerted to their situation by one of its committed members, Mr. Harimanik Tripura, who brought their urgent need for assistance to the team’s attention. In response, UTF developed a house construction project proposal with an estimated budget of ₹1,56,000. At the same time, the ONGC ST Welfare Association expressed interest in supporting this cause, agreeing to fund the construction.
Construction work began on October 23, 2021. On that occasion, UTF distributed educational materials to the village children to encourage them in their studies. After nearly two months of dedicated effort, the UTF team completed the project by December 21, 2021. The newly constructed house provided Kritimohan’s family with a secure, stable, and dignified living space. It represented not just a physical structure but also a fresh start, offering them comfort, safety, and dignity in their own home.
On December 21, 2021, UTF organized an inauguration ceremony attended by senior members of UTF and representatives from the ONGC ST Welfare Association. The highlight of the ceremony was the ribbon-cutting performed by UTF’s senior member Mr. Shakti Jamatia and ONGC ST Welfare Association’s Secretary Mr. Raman Raphael Tirkey. Mr. John Hansda from ONGC ST Welfare Association, UTF’s President Mr. Sajal, numerous UTF members, villagers, and the beneficiaries attended the event, making it a community-centered celebration.
In addition to the house handover, UTF provided the family with three goats to support Kritimohan and Hemalakhi in generating a sustainable livelihood. Acknowledging the winter season, UTF also distributed essential items such as clothing and blankets to Kritimohan’s family and other vulnerable villagers, reaching over 500 individuals with much-needed clothing support.
This house construction project reflects UTF’s unwavering commitment to supporting the most vulnerable members of the community, particularly those who fall outside of government safety nets. Through the generous funding from the ONGC ST Welfare Association and the dedicated efforts of UTF members, the project provided not only a safe home for Kritimohan and Hemalakhi but also opportunities for a sustainable livelihood.
The support extended to Kritimohan’s family has enabled them to lead a life of dignity, security, and newfound hope. UTF remains committed to fostering similar initiatives to uplift marginalized communities across Tripura, embodying its mission of compassion, resilience, and solidarity.
