Supporting Orphaned Siblings in Mongiakami: A Journey of Resilience and Hope

On the morning of February 13, 2022, Team UTF embarked on a heartfelt mission to Mongiakami to meet Ms. Mina Kumari, Ms. Kajol, Ms. Reshma, and Mr. Sachalang. These four siblings had recently lost their father to a tragic railroad accident, compounding the grief of losing their mother six months prior due to illness. Their father, a vegetable vendor in the Mongiakami village market, suffered from night blindness. On that fateful evening, while returning from the market near the railway station, he was struck by a train and passed away, leaving his children orphaned.

Upon hearing about the incident, Team UTF promptly reached out to the grieving siblings. They listened attentively to their problems, particularly their dire financial situation, and engaged in discussions about potential income-generating activities to support the family. The Team’s primary focus was on understanding the family’s needs and finding sustainable solutions to help them overcome their financial challenges.

On April 2, 2022, with the hope of providing the family with a source of income, Team UTF took the initiative to support the orphans by giving them a cow. This cow would enable the siblings to sell milk, thereby creating a steady source of income to sustain their livelihood. Additionally, the Team provided thread to the eldest daughter, Ms. Mina, to weave traditional Rignai risa (traditional attire of Tripura) and sell them, further enhancing the family’s income opportunities. Team UTF remained committed to providing ongoing support to the children in need.

True to their promise of continued support, on May 10, 2022, Team UTF responded to the children’s request for goats. One of the children had expressed a desire to start goat farming as a means to earn a living. In response, Team UTF provided two goats to help the siblings embark on their goat farming journey.

The children, Ms. Mina, Kajol, Reshma, and Sachalang, have been making remarkable progress with the resources provided. They have been able to generate income through milk sales and traditional weaving, steadily moving towards financial independence. Team UTF has also been actively supporting their education and overall well-being.

The story of these resilient siblings is a testament to their determination and the unwavering support from Team UTF. The organization continues to stand by the children, ensuring they have the necessary resources to grow, live a fulfilling life, and become financially independent. Team UTF remains committed to providing support and care for the siblings in the future, helping them navigate their journey towards a brighter tomorrow.

Team UTF prays that the children will be able to grow, live a good life, and become financially independent. Team UTF will continue providing support and keep looking after them in the near future as well.
