UTF Brings Comfort and Care to Flood Victims at Uttar Joypur School Relief Camp in Sabroom, South Tripura
On August 28, 2024, the United Tiprasa Forum (UTF) continued its dedicated outreach efforts in flood- and landslide-affected areas of Tripura by visiting the Uttar Joypur School Relief Camp in Kalibazar Panchayet, Bhuratali, Sabroom, South Tripura. The camp, now home to approximately 127 people from 46 families, has been a shelter for those displaced by the unprecedented rains and landslides that have severely impacted the state.
Understanding the immediate needs of those in the camp, UTF provided several essential items to enhance comfort and meet basic needs. This included 15 carpets for restful sleep, 8 buckets and accompanying mugs to facilitate hygiene practices, and clothing for women, ensuring dignity and comfort for those who have lost so much. In addition, UTF brought 12 kilograms of fresh fish and 5 liters of mustard oil to prepare a nourishing lunch, offering a small moment of relief and care for these affected families.
A hallmark of UTF’s approach is its direct engagement with the community. During this visit, UTF team members personally served lunch to the flood and landslide victims, conveying a message of empathy and solidarity. The team members wanted each person to feel that they are not facing this crisis alone—that UTF stands alongside them, committed to providing support during these challenging times.
Tripura has experienced record-breaking rainfall this season, resulting in severe flooding and landslides that have left thousands homeless and many areas isolated. While relief efforts continue from various organizations and the government, UTF recognizes the need to support these communities with timely and personalized care, especially in more remote regions.
UTF’s visit to Uttar Joypur School Relief Camp reflects the organization’s mission to extend compassion and practical support to those in need. The relief items provided, from basic hygiene supplies to sleeping essentials, are crucial in maintaining the well-being of the displaced families. By directly serving meals and spending time with the camp residents, UTF has fostered a sense of hope and resilience, showing that the community is not forgotten.
As the rains continue to pose challenges, UTF remains dedicated to reaching out to all affected areas, ensuring that families know they are supported. UTF’s efforts to provide essential items, meals, and emotional comfort underscore its commitment to helping the people of Tripura navigate these difficult times.
