UTF’s Efforts to Aid Khakchang Tripura: A Heartbreaking Journey

United Tiprasa Forum (UTF) is dedicated to serving those in need, and our recent efforts to help a young child, Khakchang Tripura, exemplify our commitment to this cause. Khakchang Tripura, a 1.3-year-old boy from Sabroom Kalachara, Tripura, was the youngest son of Mr. Khushidhan Tripura and Mrs. Jayaprada Tripura. Sadly, he was suffering from severe breathing problems that required urgent medical attention.

Upon learning about Khakchang’s condition, our team promptly conducted an inquiry to confirm the details. Once verified, we assured his parents that we would take full responsibility for all medical expenses. Khakchang was admitted to GB Hospital, where thorough examinations revealed that his condition necessitated surgery, which could not be performed in Tripura.

Recognizing the urgency, our team swiftly began a public fundraising campaign, raising ₹71,320 for Khakchang’s treatment. By November 4th, 2022, we requested the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) team to expedite the surgery and sent all medical reports to Mission Hospital in Durgapur, West Bengal. The hospital tentatively scheduled the surgery for November 9th or 10th.

Despite our desire to provide the best possible care, Khakchang’s critical breathing issues necessitated train travel to Durgapur. On November 7th, the team UTF finalized travel arrangements for Khakchang, his family, and some volunteers. However, on November 8th, at 10 AM, we received a distressing call informing us of Khakchang’s deteriorating condition. Tragically, a few hours later, we were informed that Khakchang had passed away.

The team UTF immediately rushed to GB Hospital to assist the grieving family. During this difficult time, Khakchang’s mother expressed their inability to take his body back to their village due to a lack of proper shelter and land for the funeral. In response, our team decided to arrange the funeral in Agartala. Mr. Dinesh Debbarma coordinated the funeral arrangements at Battala, Agartala.

After completing all the necessary formalities for the death certificate and funeral, the rituals concluded by 7:30 PM. The team UTF then arranged for Mr. and Mrs. Tripura to stay in a guest house for the night and secured their train tickets for the first train from Agartala to Sabroom the following morning at 8 AM.

Despite our best efforts, we deeply regret that we could not save Khakchang. This heartbreaking loss reinforces our resolve to continue assisting those in need. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the public for their generous support and donations, which enable us to carry out our mission.

UTF will persist in our efforts to aid the vulnerable and uphold our promise to serve the community with compassion and dedication
