Accident Victims: Rising from Tragedy, A Journey of Hope and Healing

Activity Serial No: LPT/ASN-1/003 | Project Type: Medical Treatment | Beneficiaries: Kiran Manik Tripura (27y), Biswa Kumar Tripura (30y), and 2 other accident victims | Address: Manu Bazaar, Santir Bazaar, South Tripura, India | Beneficiary Number: 4

In a quiet corner of South Tripura, where community bonds run deep, a peaceful rally was held on October 7, 2017. The purpose was clear – to demand a thorough investigation and justice for the untimely and tragic demise of Late Priyanka Reang on September 27, 2017. Little did the protestors know that this day would unfold into a life-altering event for many.

As they were returning home from the rally, tragedy struck. A Bolero Pick-up, bearing the registration TR03-C-1685, met with a horrifying accident. The impact left at least 30 people severely injured, all of whom were rushed to the Gomati District Hospital. Among them, four individuals were in critical condition and urgently referred to AGMC & GB Hospital. Two of these brave souls were Kiran Manik Tripura (27) and Biswa Kumar Tripura (30), both fighting a battle for their lives.

News of this accident soon reached local news channels, and our team members, Mr. Budhilian Hrangkhawl, Mr. Binoy Benedict Debbarma, and Mr. Sajal Debbarma, wasted no time. They rushed to GB Hospital, determined to do everything in their power to assist these accident victims.

A pressing challenge emerged – two of the critical patients required immediate blood transfusions, but the late hour made finding donors an impossible task. Furthermore, the blood bank was running low on A+(VE) Blood. In this dire situation, Mr. Sajal Debbarma stepped forward, donating a unit of his own blood, while the blood bank managed to provide one more unit of A+(VE) blood. It was a race against time, and somehow, they managed to carry out the vital blood transfusions.

However, a more significant challenge loomed. All the accident victims suffered from severe head injuries, with bleeding from their noses and ears, and some even had fractured skulls. Unfortunately, Tripura lacked the specialized neurologists needed to address these critical cases. Doctors on site expressed their helplessness in managing such injuries.

In this critical moment, a bold decision was made to save these precious lives. It was decided to transport the patients to NEIGHRIMS Shillong, where neurology specialists were available and in proximity to our location. Four SUVs were promptly hired, and the patients were transported to NEIGHRIMS Shillong early the next morning, thanks to the collaboration of several individuals.

Fortunately, there were no casualties during this challenging journey, and all the accident victims received the specialized medical care they urgently required. After several weeks of hospitalization, they returned home, on their way to recovery.

Financial constraints did pose a significant hurdle, as our newly formed NGO had limited resources. However, our dedicated team members, driven by a passion to serve their community, came together and generously donated towards the cause.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the donors, supporters, and well-wishers who played a vital role in the successful completion of this project. It is through collective efforts and unwavering commitment that we can bring hope and healing to those in dire need. Our journey as an NGO has just begun, but our determination to make a positive impact on the lives of our people remains steadfast. Together, we can continue to be the beacon of hope for our community.
