Empowering Women in Traditional Wear Production
In the midst of 2020, specifically on May 31st, the Lamphunuknai Trust (LPT) launched an impactful initiative aimed at empowering women artisans who weave our traditional attire, Rignai and Risa. This initiative is designed to provide these skilled women with essential materials at no cost and to assist in marketing and exporting their handcrafted products.
The project, known as LPT’s Kanborok and Takborok, began with the enthusiastic participation of 30 women from the regions of Khowai, Takarjala, Mandwi, Killa, and Manu. These women were selected based on their expertise and dedication to preserving traditional weaving techniques.

On June 9th, 2020, as part of the LPT’s Kanborok and Takborok project, threads were distributed to the 30 beneficiaries. This initial distribution marked a significant step in equipping these artisans with the materials necessary to continue their craft. The provision of these resources not only supports the creation of traditional wear but also offers these women opportunities for sustainable livelihoods and income generation through their exceptional craftsmanship.

Through the support of this project, LPT aims to empower women artisans by enhancing their economic independence and enabling them to make substantial contributions to their families and communities. By providing both the tools and the platform for these women to succeed, LPT is fostering a community where traditional skills are preserved and celebrated, and where women are at the forefront of cultural and economic development.
