Wild Bear Attacks in Tripura: Two Hospitalized, UTF Steps In to Help
Two tribal (Tiprasa) individuals were hospitalized following attacks by wild bears in Tripura. The first incident occurred on 17th April 2022, involving Mrs. Molsomti Reang, a resident of Baikhura. The second attack took place on 25th April 2022, with Mr. Sanjit Debbarma from Mandwi falling victim. Both were severely injured and admitted to the Trauma Center of GB Hospital, Agartala.
Upon learning about the incidents on 28th April 2022, our NGO, Team UTF, promptly dispatched a team to visit the patients at the hospital. The victims and their families recounted the harrowing details of the attacks, sharing their experiences and the challenges they faced in the aftermath.
Mrs. Molsomti Reang suffered grievous injuries, resulting in the amputation of one hand and the loss of her left eye and ear. Her head and facial injuries were severe, but she is currently out of danger and on the path to recovery.
Mr. Sanjit Debbarma was attacked in the neck, causing significant bleeding and torn nerves in his right leg, making it difficult for him to stand. His neck injury has also hindered his mobility. Despite these challenges, he too is recovering.
Before Team UTF’s involvement, several community members stepped forward to assist the victims. The families expressed deep gratitude for the support and shared details of the donations and expenses incurred.
The victims’ families also revealed the economic hardships they faced, including difficulties in feeding their children and earning a livelihood. In response, Team UTF collected donations and provided financial assistance to the victims. We assured them of ongoing support for medical expenses and committed to looking after their children while they remain hospitalized.
The victims were visited by Advisory Member Mr. Sajal Debbarma and Secretary Mr. Manoj Debbarma, who extended their support and prayers for a swift recovery. Team UTF remains dedicated to ensuring the well-being of the victims and their families during this challenging time.
Team UTF extends heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to helping the victims. We hope and pray for the speedy recovery of Mrs. Molsomti Reang and Mr. Sanjit Debbarma, wishing them a safe return home soon.
